Iron Horse I want to be the first to congratulate Doug Manno on his win in the Iron Horse Classic. He out gunned veterans Mike Carter and Ned Overend as well as a number of Durango based pros (Wherry, Collier, etc.) and soloed to the breakfast buffet in the hotel, taking all the pastries in the joint.
Amped on sugar he plans to ride the Tea Cup ride at the fair six consecutive times, if it stops snowing and the carneys emerge from their trailers.

Ouch, that sucks !
The CSP cancelled the race because the temp in Silverton would be 39 degrees. :x Maybe they should have cancelled the tour, but the race??? All those guys trained in temps below that I'm sure.
At least you save the entry fee.... ooops! no refunds either! :shock:
P.S. I have done that race in the snow, so yes, I know how bad the weather can get.

There was 5 inches of fresh snow at the BOTTOM of the pass, and 12 fresh inches of snow in Silverton. The temperature at 7.20am in Durango, when we were supposed to roll out was 36 degrees the snow-line was only about 400 feet above town, and it was switching back and forth between pouring rain and sleet. This was from the hotel window at start time;

I heard a lot of people that were disappointed about the cancelation but I didn't hear anybody question it. I was so happy to get an extra two hours of sleep.

Oh, and dropping the soap ain't nearly as bad as everyone says.

Well the report we got here on the news was that the CSP said it would be too cold and there was too much threat of hypothermia. There was nothing mentioned about snow on the ground or on the pass or even in the forecast, they only said cold. If the report had said snow, it would make much more sense. I have been stuck at the top of Coal Bank when it snowed so hard they brought out the plows and you could not physically ride down either way. I suppose given the snow, it was best to cancel it before they had to rescue everyone.
